Outerbounds Fleece | Tullahoma Industries
Outerbound Fleece

OuterBounds™ is a fleece fabric developed and manufacturered by Tullahoma Industries.  The fabric is made of 100% Innova® polypropylene yarn from American Fibers & Yarns Company.  The fabric is comfortable, warm, quick drying, and more durable, compared to other fleece fabrics.

CLO TestingThe new generation of OuterBounds active fleece is a double-sided fleece product that surpasses the insulation properties of similar weight polyester fabrics without being bulky.  This high bulk fabric provides warmth without weight.  OuterBounds 8.5 oz./sq. yd. is 20% lighter than similar 10.5 oz./sq. yd. Polyester fleece fabrics, and retains 15% more warmth than any other synthetic or natural fiber used in today's fleece market, based on the CLO value. CLO is the unit of measure that shows a fabrics insulative ability to retain heat.  The higher the CLO value, the more termal retention achieved.

The Fleece Polypropylene Underware by OuterBounds were a very important part of my 2006 Big Game Hunting season. I put them to the test from September through November and they kept me warm, dry and comfortable even throughout the ever changing Colorado weather. I highly recommend this exceptional product to everyone.

OuterBound's Fleece Polypropylene Underware was a key factor for my 2006 Hunting Season. I wore it from 5,000 feet in elevation all the way up to 10,000 feet and OuterBounds never let me down. It kept me warm when I needed it, cool when I needed it , but most importantly dry after a strenuous hunt(all key factors to a successful hunt). I highly recommend OuterBounds for superior performance when dealing with all types of weather, from warm and sunny to even the most adverse Western Colorado weather. Thanks for the opportunity to test your excellent products.

SnowmobileWhy Polypropylene?
Tullahoma Industries selected Innova® polypropylene fiber for its OuterBounds fleece fabric because it has the lowest thermal conductivity of any traditional apparel fiber.  Dry polypropylene fiber does not absorb moisture.  It's unique vapor transfer ability moves moisture away from the skin and keeps the wearer dry no matter what the activity.  Polypropylene is also color-fast, so that it will resist fading and continue to look good even in chlorinated environment.  Fabrics made from polypropylene keep the wearer warmer than any other existing apparel fabric.  For more information on Innova®, please visit the Innova page on FabricLink's Technical Center, or the American Fibers & Yarns web site.

OuterBounds™ Fleece Weights:

  • Temperate - 7 oz./sq. yd.
  • Alpine - 8.5 oz./sq. yd.
  • Arctic - 10.0 oz./sq. yd.
